Download Torrents from Command Line

Posted by Wes on September 23, 2007 | 1 comment

All of the popular torrent clients are memory hogs. rTorrent, stands out from the crowd, because it uses the least amount of system resources. Here are the quick steps you need to get started using rTorrent.

1. First install rTorrent with the following command:

sudo apt-get install rtorrent

2. Now that rTorrent is installed, launch the program with this command:

rtorrent

3. To add a torrent, press return to bring up the load prompt.

rtorrent load

4. Now navigate to the torrent using tab completion. Double-tab shows a list of available files in the current path. Press enter when you’ve found the one you want, and rtorrent will add it to the list.

5. It is labeled as “INACTIVE.” rTorrent won’t start downloading until you tell it to. Use the arrow up and down keys to highlight the torrent (marked by a bar of asterisks) and press CTRL+S.To begin downloading.
